The Senior Operations Leader provides leadership, guidance and directions to operating crew to ensure an efficient, safe and effective day-to-day operations of the units in the department. The operational leader will replace production leader during his/her absence.

 

Specifically, this position is responsible for facilitating efforts to improve the EH&S performance, quality performance, reliability, productivity and cost competitiveness of the Midland StyPoly facility. Activities will include interfacing with representatives of supply chain, coordinating supply and demand with the Logistics Activity Scheduler, and supporting the execution of the supply plan as well as Leading the Operations staff of the StyPoly plant.

 

This is an onsite position in Midland, MI that will include a standard M-F schedule or an alternating Friday off schedule. Must have the ability to be a part of the on-call rotation and work in off-hours as needed. Will be managing a team of operators on multiple shifts in a 24/7 production facility. 

Responsibilities

  • Fill the Plant Operations Leader role, including Production Coordination, Technical Advising, Reactive Chemicals Coordination and Process Safety Focal Point for the facility at various points depending on team capacity (not simultaneously)
  • Lead teams to achieve the results detailed in the unit Managing Improvement (MI) Plan and annual goals.
  • Owns the departmental goals on reliable and cost effective operation of the units in the department.
  • Support production leader during budgeting process.
  • Owns the relevant parts of the Operate the Plant, Record Production/Produce to Plan and Manage Product Quality work processes within the area of responsibility.
  • Work with the Business Manufacturing Technology group to identify gaps, assess improvements and support implementation.
  • Act as the primary contact for the business supply chain on supply/demand, Asset Capability and Asset Utilization discussions.
  • Ensures overlap between other Work processes and functions are managed effectively
  • Executes his responsibilities using empowered employees and teams. Stimulates empowerment.
  • Leads execution/preparations for unscheduled/unplanned outages of the units.
  • Shares responsibilities of the Turnaround execution together with the Turnaround Manager.
  • Ensures effective training programs and execution for operating crew teams.
  • Leads Root Cause Investigations for unplanned events, production losses, quality incidents, EH&S.
  • Leads effective implementation of the assigned corrective actions.
  • Is responsible for resource allocation and succession planning for operating crew teams.
  • Track asset utilization, asset capability, report, and analyze.
  • Support troubleshooting activities in the process.
  • OSHA Incidence frequency rate meets long term business goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related discipline. Technical education in relevant engineering/science disciplines.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in manufacturing plants of a similar flat organization
  • Chemical manufacturing experience required
  • Supervisory experience required. Supervisory experience of direct reports in a multiple shift, 24/7 environment preferred.
  • Union employee supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experiences in leading team for results, Past leadership role and duties,
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Supervise operation and field checks process equipment. Monitor process conditions,
  • equipment and control systems. Uses troubleshooting skills to resolve process-related deviations and problems.
  • Coaches and trains others on plant operations.
  • Initiate and take part in plant performance improvements works in such as production yield, conversion cost and equipment reliability.
  • Ensure that all activities such as: Resolve, record, report and investigate unplanned events linked to EH&S, quality, plant performance, and/or maintenance.
